Researchers analyzed the scalp hair of 8 Chilean mummies with dates ranging from 2,000 BC to 1,500 AD. Cocaine metabolites were found in the mummified remains. In addition, hair analysis of ancient Peruvian mummies dated to 1000 CE reveal the presence of two metabolites of cocaine.
